The name “Freedom Fry” – a satire on French/US relations during the Iraq war- is well known to any frequent visitor of The Hype Machine. The French & American duo popularly known as Freedom Fry has racked up over 40 appearances on the music blog aggregator, including six Top 10s and two #1s. While independent, they have amassed 10 million combined plays on Spotify and SoundCloud, and received support across airwaves from radio stations: KCRW, KEXP, BBC Radio 2, Radio 6, SIRIUS XM, and beyond.
Freedom Fry’s music, which heavily bleeds the warmth and sunshine of their home state of California, skirts the lines between pop, folk and indie rock; always blended with danceable rhythms and a sing-a-long chorus. Catching the ears of music lovers globally, they have licensed songs for more than 15 spots in the past year alone, including placements in Netflix’s new hit show “Love” (from Judd Apatow), in TV’s Grey’s Anatomy, and in high-profile ads from fashion brands Madewell and Lanvin.
Last year, when Belgian sensation Stromae took notice, he took Freedom Fry out to open the dates on his most recent west coast tour + Miami. Freedom Fry also recently toured the east coast with Communion Presents and played with other acts such as X Ambassadors, Phantogram, and French darlings Lilly Wood & The Prick. They have also appeared at School Night in Los Angeles, Popscene in San Francisco, Club NME in London, Nuba in Paris, at Summit Series, and standout showcases at SXSW.
The now-married Michigan-native Bruce Driscoll and Parisian Marie Seyrat released their “Shaky Ground” EP via Capitol Records France and their own Caveman Arts Society label, back in 2016 which paved way for their other projects thereafter.
